Ministry of Mothers Sharing

8-Week Sessions
The foundation of the Ministry of Mothers Sharing is an 8-week journal session. Three peer facilitators and up to ten participants meet each week to discuss, pray, and reflect on the book, "MOMS: A Personal Journal."

8-Week Outline

Week 1:Self-Esteem and Acceptance:What choices influence my self-esteem?

Week 2: Stress, Worries, and Anxiety:What can I do to recognize and deal with stress productively?

Week 3:Everyday Spirituality:What is my image and experience of sprituality and ministry as a mother?

Week 4:Feelings:How can I name, claim, and accept my own feelings and deal with them in a healthy manner?

Week 5: Personal Growth:How am I challenged to grow at this time in my life? What are my goals?

Week 6: Values in Friendships:What values do I express in my friendships?

Week 7:Continuing the Journey:Fill out a Spiritual Gifts Inventory and discern how I am called to use these gifts.

Week 8:Celebration of New Beginnings:Do I feel I belong to a Christian community? How do I celebrate that belonging? This is usually a celebration lunch or evening dessert on a separate day.

Continuing the Journey
What happens after the session is over?

Each parish offers different "Continuing the Journey" events.

Book and Bible Studies: Many ministries offer book and bible studies. Some offer a once-a-month "evening of reflection." Ministry of Mothers Sharing National provides a list of suggested books on www.stpaulsmonastery.org

Leadership:Many women feel so touched by the 8-week session they want to become apart of leadership to help the ministry grow in their parish. The Ministry of Mothers Sharing Sacramento Regional Coordinator provides a facilitator training workshop every fall and every spring for those who want to become a faciltator for the next session. Regionally, we also provide Core team training workshops for the Ministry of Mothers Sharing "Core team" of leaders at each parish.

Retreats: The Sacramento area of the ministry offers many retreat opportunities. Please see the "On the Journey" and "Retreat, Reflect, Renew" pages.

Empowered and moving on! The beautiful thing about the ministry is that for many participants, this is the first time they have truly become in touch with their God-given gifts and call to serve. After one or two years of the session, retreats, and book studies, many women move on from the ministry to start other ministries and services in their parish. There are countless numbers of ministries, prayer groups, faith formation groups, and activities started as a result of a mother who was empowered through the ministry.
